Meet the Asustek 1.1 Teraflop supercomputer! Asustek Computer unveiled its first supercomputer – desktop computer-sized ESC 1000, which uses NVIDIA graphics processors to attain speeds up to 1.1 teraflops.
FYI: One teraflop is one trillion flops (floating point operations per second), a measure of computing speed. Computers able to perform at such high speeds can be used in a variety of ways, including scientific research, image manipulation, engineering modeling or for medical purposes.
Asus’s ESC 1000 comes with a 3.33GHz Intel LGA1366 Xeon W3580 microprocessor designed for servers, along with 960 graphics processing cores from Nvidia inside three Tesla c1060 Computing Processors and one Quadro FX5800., according to a spec sheet from Asustek.
The processing power found inside the ESC 1000 has 24GB of DDR3 memory at 1333MHz along with a 500GB SATA II hard drive. The PSU is good for 1100 watts.
It is still unknown how much the supercomputer will cost, although ASUS have stated that a 5 year cost structure comes in at $14,519 USD.
Google today released the SDK for the much-anticipated 2.0 update to the operating system – the Eclair. Android 2.0 offers a number of feature improvements and interface tweaks. The biggest new feature is multitouch support.
Syncing for multiple e-mail accounts, including Exchange accounts and contacts. According to the small print, however, “handset manufacturers can choose whether to include Exchange support in their devices.” Ick.

In an announcement which will be music to Microsoft’s ears, Amazon.co.uk declared that the new operating system sold more pre-order copies in the first eight hours of its release than Vista did in its entire pre-order period.
“The launch of Windows 7 has superseded everyone’s expectations, storming ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the biggest grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong, ” said Amazon.co.uk managing director Brian McBride.
“Over the past three months, only Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol has sold more copies than Windows 7, which is an incredible achievement for a software product.”
